For over 100 years, the Hollis Center Public Library has been here for Hollis — a free, welcoming space for children, families, seniors, and neighbors of all backgrounds. Today, we're asking our community to help us take an important next step: making sure everyone can actually get through the door.
Our front entrance — including the entry deck, steps, ramp, and vestibule — is deteriorated and does not meet current ADA accessibility standards. For community members who use wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids, and for our growing population of older adults, this is a real barrier to accessing their library. We're fixing it. Our plan includes a complete replacement of the front entry deck, steps, and wheelchair ramp, and a full vestibule renovation with a new wheelchair-accessible door — bringing our century-old building into full ADA compliance.
We're already making progress! We were recently awarded a $15,000 grant from the Association for Rural & Small Libraries, made possible by the Manton Foundation — and we have additional grant applications pending. Now we're turning to our community to help close the gap.
Total project cost: $53,750
Grants pending: $55,000*
Community donations goal: every dollar helps
*Grant requests intentionally overlap to ensure project completion. Any surplus will fund the next phase of our accessibility work.
